Cosmetic Bonding & Contouring
Cosmetic tooth bonding and contouring are among the most conservative dental treatment options, and can be performed independently or together as part of a minimally invasive cosmetic touchup. With the application of tooth-colored composite resin, tooth bonding can build up the structure and improve the appearance of a tooth that is chipped, cracked, discolored, or oddly spaced. Dr. Campbell will apply the custom-tinted resin to the affected area of the tooth, sculpt the material to the desired shape, then harden the resin with a special curing light. Tooth contouring, on the other hand, can improve the appearance of your dentition by lightly shaping the outer layer of enamel. It is often recommended for teeth with jagged or overlapping edges, or that have rough, mottled areas of enamel.
When to Schedule an Appointment
If you’re unhappy with your smile, then your first step should be to schedule a cosmetic consultation with your dentist as soon as possible. After a thorough examination, Dr. Campbell can determine if bonding and/or contouring is the best cosmetic option. If so, then you and Dr. Campbell will work together to develop an appropriate treatment plan.
If your tooth is significantly chipped, cracked, worn down, or infected with decay, then bonding and contouring may not suffice. In such cases, Dr. Campbell will explain why bonding and contouring won’t work, then help you decide on a more effective treatment option.
